Students are required to take math during their sixth-grade year. The goal of this course is to extend students’ content knowledge in mathematics, as well as to promote independent and collaborative thinking /problem-solving, preparing students for the rigors of higher education and the workforce beyond. The students will receive instruction in and demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical functions and problem-solving in the areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratio and proportion, pre-algebra, and geometry.

By the end of the course, students should have a strong foundation of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. This course is to prepare students to be successful in higher levels of middle school mathematics.
